I spent the last 10 years, after a successful career owning a printing company, developing a consulting model that specialized in helping clients manage change, retool operations, compete, thrive and grow. I found that unity between workers and systems leads to vastly higher production; more importantly, unity and good morale leads to satisfied workers who will perform gladly, rather than simply out of duty.
It felt and sounded like a great model that would make a huge impact on all those I worked with, but something was wrong. Even though my clientele and revenues continued to grow, I was feeling more and more frustrated about the effectiveness of the change I helped to evoke for clients. What seemed to happen time and time again was that the operational adjustments stayed intact while I was engaged, but in most cases, as my contract came to an end, so did those adjustments. I became increasingly frustrated and felt STUCK. I wanted more. I wanted to become a more effective change agent. What I really needed was to challenge clients with ‘heart’ change, instead of “head” change.
As I prayed about this dilemma, I felt challenged to consider partnerships that would compliment my strengths of organization and structure (head, not heart). I have always been a lone-ranger, having started my business when I was 25 years old and being happy not to have to collaborate or answer to anyone (but my wife). Most of the reason I spent all those years alone was simply PRIDE! But now, I was being led in a different direction. One that would mean I would need to rely on someone other than myself. I reached out to my good friend, Jan Zachariasse, who had spent the last 5-years developing a coaching practice and discussed the potential of pulling our two business models together in order to have more impact on the clients we work with. This would be a more holistic model to evoke change with both the head AND the HEART!
Jan and I started working on refining his coaching model (then called Path to Purpose) and we soon recognized how that model could be expanded beyond 1-on-1 coaching, adding a consultive model to the back and then to bring it to the corporate world. 12-months later, here we are — launching a company named Inzet LLC and using the holistic coach, counsel and consult model to help clients assess the past, re-frame their current narrative to get “unstuck,” and set off into a purpose-filled future.
